Outside the Therapy Room

Resident in Counseling | Cushing Counseling – Virginia
Compassionate, Affirming, and Trauma-Informed Therapy

I’m Alexandria Da Ponte-Cheatham, a Resident in Counseling at Cushing Counseling, where I specialize in trauma-informed, affirming therapy for adults, couples, and LGBTQIA+ clients. My goal is to create a safe, inclusive space where clients can explore their stories, navigate transitions, and cultivate resilience, curiosity, and self-compassion.

My Approach

I work from a person-centered, narrative, and mindfulness-based foundation, integrating evidence-based approaches such as:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

  • Motivational Interviewing

  • Trauma-Informed Care

I believe that healing happens when therapy is grounded in authenticity, compassion, and respect for the full complexity of who you are.

Clients often seek me out for support with:

  • Anxiety, depression, and ADHD

  • Trauma recovery, grief, and spiritual distress

  • LGBTQIA+ identity exploration and relational dynamics

  • Religious deconstruction and shame resilience

  • Sexual wellness, intimacy challenges, and ethical non-monogamy

I’m especially passionate about helping clients find healing and empowerment at the intersection of sexuality, spirituality, and identity—reclaiming agency in their lives and relationships.
