MEET ALEXANDRIA

Alexandria Da Ponte Cheatham, M.Ed., M.Div.Resident in Counseling | Cushing Counseling – Virginia

Alexandria holds dual master's degrees from William & Mary (Clinical Mental Health Counseling) and Duke University (Divinity), bringing a rare depth of understanding to the intersection of sexuality, identity, and lived experience.

She specializes in sexual wellness, intimacy concerns, and identity development — with particular expertise supporting those healing from religious trauma, purity culture, or experiences where shame was woven into their understanding of sex and the body.

Her approach is warm, non-judgmental, and deeply affirming. She works with individuals of all backgrounds, orientations, and identities.

Supervised by Vanessa Cushing, LPC, CST — an AASECT Certified Sex Therapist and one of fewer than 2,000 clinicians in the country to hold this credential. Every case at Cushing Counseling is overseen at the highest level of expertise.

Common Questions

Is this real sex therapy? Yes. Sex therapy at Cushing Counseling is specialized, evidence-based therapy focused on sexual concerns and intimacy. All therapy is talk-based — there is no physical contact in sessions.

Does sex therapy involve any physical contact? No. Sessions are 100% talk-based. Your therapist may suggest exercises or practices to try at home, but these are always discussed openly and completely optional.

Is telehealth as effective as in-person therapy? Research consistently shows telehealth therapy is as effective as in-person for the concerns we treat. Many clients actually find it easier to talk openly from the comfort and privacy of their own home.

How much does it cost? We are out-of-network providers. Many clients receive partial reimbursement through their insurance's out-of-network benefits. Visit our Fees page for details.

What if I'm not sure therapy is right for me? That's exactly what the free 15-minute consultation is for. No commitment, no obligation — just a conversation.
