IFS Therapy in Northern Virginia

Northern Virginia is one of the most fast-paced, high-achieving regions in the country. Between federal contracts, tech companies, government agencies, and the constant buzz of the DC corridor, NoVA residents are used to being productive, capable, and on — and often not great at slowing down long enough to tend to what's happening inside.

If you've been carrying anxiety, a relentless inner critic, old trauma, or patterns in relationships you can't seem to break, IFS therapy offers a different kind of solution. Cushing Counseling serves Northern Virginia clients via secure telehealth with Radiance Sanneman, MS, LCPC — a Level 1 trained IFS therapist licensed in Virginia.

What Is IFS Therapy?

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is an evidence-based approach that treats the mind as a system of "parts" — the driven achiever, the harsh critic, the worrier, the shut-down protector — all trying to help you survive and succeed, but sometimes working against each other.

IFS helps you access your Self — the calm, wise center beneath all the noise — and use that Self to heal the parts that are stuck, overwhelmed, or carrying old pain. It's particularly effective for people who are analytically minded and have done a lot of self-reflection but still feel like something deeper isn't shifting.
